Frankfurt (aka Stankfurt)
Yes, this is the prison I call home. Okay, it's not really that bad, but once you start traveling around and see so many amazing places (and meet much friendlier people), it's hard not to despise where you live. Winters here are unbearable, with almost a constant 35F and light rain, it makes you want to die. The fact that the Alps are only 5 hours away, and that the Christmas market runs for a whole month does ease the Winter pain. But when it warms up, the summers are great. Once the festivals start in April, you're okay until about September when you have to start crying again.
Frankfurt, like many German cities, was very scenic before WWII. Sadly, most of the beauty was destroyed from the bombings. There are still some nice parts, Römerplatz near the river, assorted churches, and Eschersheimer Turm - what remains of the old city wall.
| Highlights: | Römerplatz (oldest part of the city), 5-Tallest buildings in Europe, great airport and train station make escaping easy | ||
| Things You'll Notice: | Many people are miserable bankers who don't know how to smile, ridiculously expensive cars | ||
