Heidelberg
Heidelberg is a very popular town with tourists because of its enormous castle. This university town receives over 2 million visitors every year. The castle, which was partly demolished centuries ago, has been well preserved. The thing I found amazing is the size of the grounds the castle inhibits. Between other structures (basically a small town) and gardens and such, the royal property is enormous. I recommend walking a little off the beaten path around the edge of the castle grounds, enjoying the gardens and taking note of the care taken in designing this fortress. The town itself is very scenic, with plenty of narrow cobblestone streets and old buildings. We even discovered a great brewery near the river that serves a great 1 liter maß (mug) of their beer.
