London

I met a friend of mine who was studying in York at the time in London in January of 2002. The weather was freezing and rainy, and of course, I got to see what London fog was all about. London is a bustling city with a lot to see and do. The architecture is great, there are plenty of great old churches and monuments everywhere, it's really a very pretty city. The only real downsides to London are the costs (sickening), the crime, the weather, and drunken hooligans. Brits will fight at the drop of a hat, and drink until they can't stand almost everytime they drink. Pubs close around 11:00 PM, so all the night's drinking is crammed into a few hours, which results in an ugly scene afterwards. But London is a very cool place to check out for a few days, I just wouldn't want to live there.

I did get to see the Cabinet War Rooms, where Churchill and his War Cabinet stayed during the attacks on London during WWII. I highly recommend the tour, you can see some amazing pictures and hand-written letters between Churchill and Roosevelt. The National Gallery is also a great place to visit, housing Van Gogh's "Sunflowers" and countless other amazing works. There is a large Indian population in London, resulting in amazing Indian cuisine that you should try. The Tower of London houses all sorts of weird stuff like a torture museum. We stayed away from that one, it looks eerie enough from the outside.

Highlights: Westminster Abbey, Big Ben & Parliament, Tower Bridge, Hyde Park, Cabinet War Rooms, Tower of London, National Gallery
Things You'll Notice: Lots of drunks looking for fights, you forgot what the sun looks like, you just paid 7£ for a packaged sandwich at a grocery store
