Lucerne
I was in Lucerne during my first trip with the Frankfurt International Ski Club in Feb. 2003. While there isn't any skiing or boarding in Lucerne itself, you can see the mountains from town (Engelberg is the town where the lifts are). Lucerne is a ridiculously gorgeous little Swiss town with the Alps for a backdrop. The famed Lion Monument, 7 meters long and carved into a stone wall can be found here, as well as a famous pedestrian bridge and very scenic churches and buildings. To get the daytime photos you see below, I had to get up early before the bus left for the slopes, and jog for 10 minutes across town. It wasn't fun, but seeing the results, it was definitely worth it. I took the first picture from our ski bus, on the return to Lucerne - we were all stuck in traffic behind the Karneval parade, hah.
