Luxembourg City

Yes, this tiny little piece of land is a country, and a very scenic one at that. The country has a very high standard of living, is very clean, and has almost no crime. It's almost one of those places that's so clean and safe that you wonder if it's real (just like Switzerland). With a lead-footed Spaniard driving, we made great time and were able to see a lot of the country in one day. We drove in from Trier, Germany early in the morning, spent a few hours in Luxembourg City, and then took off for the countryside. The city is a wonder of different levels and terraces, it is really something you have to see. There are about a million different places along the many levels to sit down on a bench and enjoy the scenery below, above, everywhere.

There is a huge network (23 km) of underground tunnels "casemates," and countless bombproof rooms built underground and into the natural landscape. It is easy to see why Luxembourg City's natural defences made it a highly sought after city for centuries.

Highlights: Chemin de la Corniche (herladed as most beautiful balcony in Europe), old town-center, casemates, bridges in town
Things You'll Notice: Cleanliness, order, everyone here speaks at least 4 languages (except you)
