Munich

Ah Munich, the capital of Bavaria. This is my favorite city in Germany, and definitely the place to be in the summertime. Munich is famous for many things, a lot of which revolve around beer. If you are a fan of fine brews, be sure to check out Augistiner (my favorite) and Spaten -both breweries based in Munich. Of course there are many other popular breweries based here - Löwenbrau and the famed Hofbräu Haus. While the latter's beer doesn't rank up there with the best of them, the atmosphere in the Hofbrau Haus is unmatched. The place is always packed with people slamming liter mugs (called a mass) and singing Bavarian songs. On top of being a lot of fun, Munich really is a beautiful city. From the countless old buildings, bridges, and churches, to the 5 mile long English Garden (where nude sunbathing is not frowned upon), and the Olympic Park (where the biggest and best bands come to play), there is always something to see and do. And to top it all off, the Alps are only an hour away, and visible from the city on a very clear day.

Highlights: Marienplatz, Frauenkirche (twin-towered church - a symbol of the Munich skyline), Englischer Garten (English Garden), Deutsches Museum (enormous natural science museum), local breweries and beer halls
Things You'll Notice: Bavarians greet with "Gruß Gott" rather than the normal "Guten Tag," giant pretzels go great with giant beers
